PEF-170x170The Punjab Schools Education Department launched the first ”Punjab School Education Sector” Plan at the Punjab Civil Officers Mess in Lahore.
The sector plan was developed by the School Education Department and Programme Monitoring Implementation Unit (PMIU) with the technical support of G I Z (German Development Cooperation) over a period of 3 years through an intensively participatory and consultative process involving,stakeholders at all levels including development partners.

The Plan, The first of its kind which suggested concrete remedial strategies to improve Quality, Access, Governance and Equity in School Education over the five years.
Launching Ceremony was largely attended by Officials from School Education Department, Planning &Development Deptt, Higher Education Deptt, Literacy & Non Formal Basic Education Deptt, teachers from Public Sector Schools of Punjab, and representatives of World Bank, DFID, Cambridge Education, UNICEF and local NGOs.

All stakeholders and development partners endorsed the Punjab Education Sector Plan and stated that there was a dire need for a systemic plan integrating functions and resources of all related departments for the improvement of quality of basic education with increased access and improved efficiency of governance for the public sector schools in Punjab.
In his address Asim Iqbal, Programme Director PMIU, highlighted the salient features of the Plan. Mrs. Nighat Lone Programme Manager GIZ Punjab in her speech explained the background & objectives of PSESP. A presentation on the Plan was also shared with the participants followed by a Q&A session.
Dr. Dagmar Awad, Principal Advisor GIZ Basic Education Programme, assured the Punjab Schools Education Deptt Govt. of Punjab of their full assistance & cooperation in the implementation of the Plan (PSESP).
Secretary School Education Department Govt. of Punjab, Abdul Jabbar Shaheen in his address appreciated the efforts of all those who participated in the development & launching of the plan, for GIZ\’s support & hoped that this Plan would prove to be a milestone for achieving higher educational standards in public sector schools.
At the end of the ceremony Asim Iqbal Programme Director PMIU, thanked the participants for their presence and interest shown in the launching of the PSESP
