What is Garcinia Cambogia? Garcinia cambogia is a small, pumpkin-shaped fruit, sometimes called tamarind. The natural extract used for the supplement is called hydroxycitric acid (HCA), and researchers claim that HCA can double or triple one’s weight loss. With proper weight-loss efforts (dieting and exercising), the average person taking HCA lost about four pounds in one month! It is the newest and most exciting herbal supplement and weight loss product on the market because it works in two ways: (1) it curbs your appetite by acting as an appetite suppressant and (2) it blocks the production of fat.

Is Garcinia Cambogia Safe? The plant and its fruit have been eaten safely for years in normal amounts. However, don’t take this supplement if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication (i.e. for diabetes), talk to a doctor before taking Garcinia Cambogia to make sure this is right for you. Those taking a statin (a cholesterol-lowering drug) should use this supplement with caution because it can increase the risk of harmful side effects, like rhabdomyolysis or muscle degradation. Those with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia shouldn’t take HCA because of the risk of worsening dementia.

If you are a normal, healthy adult that is not on any form of medication or not suffering from any other symptoms, then Garcinia Cambogia should be safe to incorporate into your daily life. If you are unsure, the best bet is to call your doctor before beginning Garcinia Cambogia, just to make sure.

How Much Should I Take? You can buy garcinia cambogia extract in health food stores or online. When looking for a supplement, look for “garcinia cambogia” or “GCE” with at least 50% HCA (active ingredient potassium). When looking for supplements, make sure you can see and review the list of ingredients. If you can’t see the ingredients, don’t buy that brand. Furthermore, there should be no fillers or artificial ingredients.

When Will I See Results? With no other changes, you may lose 2-4 pounds within the first month (results vary on the individual). However, to see better and faster results, it is recommended that the Garcinia Cambogia be combined with normal exercise (a few times per week) and a proper diet.

As with anything, Garcinia Cambogia should not be a substitute for a healthy diet or normal exercise, but should be combined with these things for the best results.
